Is Social Networking for Normal People?

Back when this Social sites thing first came around I was greatly disillusioned from it.   There was no plainly visible business reason to partake in any of the activities within them. It looked like all fun and games to me.  I didn’t pay much attention to it, but as we can all plainly see today, Social Networking sites are a big deal and they are here to stay  … at least for a while. SEO is still required for your websites so be sure to check out the SEO training course.

Only for a while? Well, nothing seems to have long term stability in the online world so I won’t commit to thinking they will last into the next decade. The internet has changed immensely in the past 10 years and will continue on it’s merry way of change for another. In some ways, the more things change the more they stay the same, and I see some of this as being true, but wow, things have indeed changed. Mainly with technology becoming more and more … well … technical.

I remember the old online Bulletin Board Systems, which today would be forums and, in a lot of ways, blogs. IRC and other chat rooms are a lot like the Facebook and Twitter type of sites we all use today. So, things are similar while they are indeed very different.

Today we all exist and do our work in this online world of business. The online world is where we make our income so we need to generate traffic to our sites, and also know that we will be able to generate traffic in the future. Social Networking has an answer here, or at least that is what seems to be the trend, and it’s backed up by all those people who everyone thinks knows everything and predict our future.

Google made a statement that YouTube is the #2 method people use to find websites, falling in behind Google themselves. I would of thought it to be Facebook myself … hey, but what do I know? Twitter should be in there somewhere as well. If you think you can let this slide, forget that thought. Get with the program and get into social networking. It is the way things are going and it will be one additional way to keep traffic flowing to your site as all these changes become mainstay daily life as the time marches forward.

I have myself stationed on Facebook and Twitter, but I don’t really do a lot beyond these two. Where do you stand?. I have done nothing with videos but I do have it on my list to make a couple of simple ones, the type without actual video, but voice and maybe some graphics or charts. I have a supply of Facebook friends and followers and a presence on Twitter. We all need to realize that it is now time to get well established on these social networks if we are not already. It’s time to get into them and really spend some time marketing through their networks. Get some links to your sites, and links from your sites to your networks. Don’t get left behind in this wave of the future, it could devastate your online business.

Good luck! … and be sure to get your Like Box!
